What I am working on now

Alessandro Marianantoni works internationally on artistic, cultural and entertainment based projects with an emphasis on new media and technological innovation.

He has produced and presented interactive installations in the U.S. and Europe, receiving public and private sponsorship.
A.M. earned a degree in Computer Science from the University of L’Aquila, with a thesis on perceptual interfaces at the USC Integrated Media System Center. He then worked for several years as a researcher at the UCLA REMAP center at the School of Theater, Film and Television where he was able to expand his research in various areas of interest: culture, technology, the environment and the Arts, with a unique, multi-disciplinary approach.

While predominantly based in Los Angeles, he often travels to Italy where, with public funding, he started MEDIARS, an Experimental Center that endeavors to create innovation and enhance the ability of small and medium sized towns to reach out on a global scale and be heard on the international stage. Main activity at MEDIARS is the International Workshop, the 6th edition in 2015 takes place in Milano.

A.M. often participates at charrettes for the entertainment and architecture industry and over the last 15 years he has designed and developed innovative projects for music, healthcare and the environment. Due to his keen interest in urban art installations, in 2009 with Marcos Lutyens he created CO2morrow a ground-breaking 28-foot tall interactive art installation on climate change, sponsored by the National Trust, for a show at the Royal Academy of Arts in London. His recent work Voices from the Colosseum, which has been extensively covered by the Italian media, focuses on research-based  cinematic and mobile technology  and has been conducted in collaboration with Google Goggles. It has successfully been used with the Colosseum in Rome.

Until 2014 A.M. was senior researcher, project director and principal investigator at UCLA REMAP on several initiatives spanning from research to production like cyber-physical aspects of an NSF Future Internet Architecture initiative, fostering youth mobility through international programs, including founding and directing the ”International Research Program on Storytelling and Technology” sponsored by the Italian Government.
He is currently working as an artist for a interactive gateway artwork in Pasadena, California.
